Basic Precision Rifle Operators Course of Instruction Summary:
This will be a comprehensive course of instruction for the new or nearly new operator assigned to a precision rifle position. This will also be a good course of instruction for any precision rifle operator looking for refresher training and reinforcement of basic fundamentals as well as coverage of more advanced techniques. Students will develop a broad base of knowledge covering topics in detail that often get touched on briefly and then passed by in other precision rifle courses. This will be a controlled and focused course with a primary objective of building a solid foundation for the new PR operator to build upon. Precision Rifle Course
The student will leave this five days of instruction with an in depth grounding in basic fundamentals and well prepared for more advanced training. At the end of this training the student will feel as if their rifle is an extension of their body and clearly understand what they can and cannot accomplish with their systems. Precision Rifle Course
Although this course is designed as a basic training course for new snipers we will be covering topics that normally got very little attention in even the more advanced training courses that I have attended during my career. We cannot build absolute competence and proficiency in all sniper skill sets in a short 50-60 hours of training; we will build a good foundation and move you down the proper path. Precision Rifle Course
Precision Rifle Course Training Location:
This training precision rifle course will be presented at a private training facility in Northern Arizona. The facility is located on a private ranch approximately 5 miles north of Interstate 40 and approximately 1.5 hours drive time from Kingman, Arizona. Students will be billeted in a multi-level, modern lodge that is established in close proximity to the training ranges. Students will be fed a hot country style breakfast each morning, box lunches on the range or in the classroom and a hot country style dinner each evening. Students are strongly encouraged to stay on property at the lodge in order to eliminate travel time. Some of the planned training days will run 10-12 hours with quick turnarounds the following day. Good to have additional equipment if available: There are many sources available online for the four following items but if you want a quick reference go to US Tactical Supply and check out the items.
- Mildot Master – excellent tool for rapidly converting Mil readings on known target sizes to an engagement range reading. Simple device that will serve you when all battery-powered equipment fails and fits inside data book case. Precision Rifle Course
- Slope Doper – handy device for measuring slope angle and also gives you a slope angle factor. Also has some very useful graphics and ranging formulas on the rear. Also does not require batteries
- Sniper Template – will allow you to copy data into your data book in a more professional manner.
- Data Book Cover – this will give you some place to consolidate and store your data book, pens, pencils, trajectory sheets, template, calculator, Mildot Master and Slope Doper.
- BDU type clothing is recommended due to the training environment.
- A full rain suit may not be required but I would consider a rain jacket and a cheap poncho to throw over your pack while in position.
- A couple of heavy-duty zip-lock storage bags are always a good idea for protecting your data book and electronics.
- Cargo pants will give you plenty of pockets.
- Long sleeve shirts are recommended for protection from the environment. You will be spending hours on the ground. Precision Rifle Course
- I highly recommend a boonie type hat for proper protection from the sun.
- Good boots for traction and support. Some of our shooting positions will require hiking and packing our gear up to high ground or down into ravines.
- Make sure that your backpack is sufficient for carrying all of your critical support equipment including ammo, water, hand held optics, spotting scope, tripod and ??
- Laser Range Finder – If you have one bring it. They will be very useful for quick ranging and a good training aid for confirming reticle ranged data during our planned ranging exercises.
- Spotting scope and tripod if available. Precision Rifle Course
- Shooting mat – can be very useful for protecting you from adverse ground conditions.
We have five days for training. There will be no timeouts for weather unless it gets dangerous or so severe that training objectives cannot be met. Precision Rifle Course
The listed equipment is not all-inclusive. If you have additional equipment that you would like to train with then you are welcome to bring it with you. For some of our square range training your vehicles will be close by and the equipment can be accessed quickly.
