Primary job function and focus throughout career was with special investigations and SWAT.  Spent majority of career conducting surveillance operations, felony apprehension, anti-narcotics tactical support, Special Weapons and Tactics and as an instructor for departmental defensive tactics, SWAT tactics and firearms training programs.

 

  • Joined the United States Army shortly after high school graduation.
  • Served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper from 1980-1984.
  • Separated from the military with an honorable discharge at the end of contracted duty with the rank of Sergeant E-5.
  • Started selection process for a position as a police officer with the City of Scottsdale, AZ within a few months of finishing military commitment.
  • Hired by the Scottsdale P.D. February 1st 1985.  Served with Scottsdale P.D. without any break in service for 25 years.  Retired from service on March 31st, 2010.
  • 3 years of duty as a uniformed patrol officer.
  • Transferred to Special Investigations Section / Special Assignments Unit / SWAT where and served for 12 years.  Was assigned as squad OIC for several years during this first rotation.
  • Transferred to Investigative Services Bureau / Financial Crimes Unit where and served for 14 months.
  • Transferred back to Special Investigations Section / Special Assignments Unit / SWAT.  Served in the Special Assignments Unit for over 21 years of total service time and was assigned to that unit for the remainder of career.
  • Founding member of the SPD SWAT team.
  • Served with the team without a break in service for approximately 18 years.   (Team was not established until 1992)
  • Assigned as “point man” on the Red Squad entry team for approximately 10 years.
  • Assigned to our sniper squad and served in a dual-role capacity for approximately 8 years.
  • Served as team leader for our sniper element for over two years.
